Q: Tell me about why you got into the electrical industry?

A: I started an electrical apprenticeship for 5 years, 40 years ago, straight out of school. Electricity is essential and so electricians are always in demand. There is a great deal of opportunities in specialist areas and the option to work independently.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your work?

A: I like to have a choice of projects that I want to get involved with, making my own decisions. Electrical work is practical and hands-on, making it ideal for someone like me who likes a challenge and variety in my day-to-day. 

Q: What do you enjoy in your spare time?

A: Playing and watching football and golf. Cycling and walking the dog on a weekend. Enjoying the sunshine ideally on a beach either abroad or a leisurely RIB trip on the Solent. 

Q: What are some common challenges you find within the electrical industry?

A: Challenges in the electrical industry include tight project timelines, poor co-ordination among trades on-site and a lack of apprenticeship opportunities available.
